Plan Overview
Weight loss counselors evolve into the role of supportive coach and cheerleader over the two-year recommended commitment period
the dieter is on the S.T.A.R. Plan. During this time, you will guide your dieters through the S.T.A.R.s, including:
- After an introductory group meeting celebrating dieters’ weight loss success, you will meet with each dieter for two individual meetings
- The meetings establish goals, confirm joys and worries, and help the dieter formulate a unique path to develop the necessary structure for a successful future. During this meeting, the dieter will also create goal "zones"
Green Safety Zone
No more than three to five lbs over start * weight
|
The purpose of this zone is to define new goals and reinforce the core behaviors which stabilize weight and to keep the dieter actively focused not to stray.
* Typical range
|
Yellow Caution Zone
Weekly average weight goes over the three-to-five lbs start weight
|
If the dieter slips and regains weight beyond the Green Safety Zone, the S.T.A.R. coach and client need to focus on any new issues.
This is typically a time to increase activity and refocus on healthy food selection practices.
|
Red Correction Zone
Weekly average weight is five-to-eight lbs over start weight
|
At this level, dieters are in danger of regaining significant excess weight. Client reactivates weight loss efforts with an appropriate plan,
add physical activity and increase the frequency of visits with their S.T.A.R. coach to a weekly basis.
|
- Under your guidance, dieters will use S.T.A.R. motivational materials and worksheets to expand their problem-solving abilities and develop personal resources to face challenges. These materials also provide creative, interactive ideas to help weight loss counselors encourage continued participation
- To maximize long-term success, counselors need to promote the value of maintenance for life from the beginning of the relationship with the dieter and help them understand that their journey does not end with weight loss
